Bernie Sanders is proposing a public ownership stake in major AI companies through a sovereign wealth fund. You can support that idea, oppose it, amend it, or reject it — but Congress cannot keep hiding from the biggest power question of our time.

AI is already reshaping energy demand, water use, land use, labor markets, privacy, surveillance, education, copyright, public infrastructure, and local economies.

The question is not just whether Bernie is right.

The question is whether the AI future will be governed by the people’s branch — or by billionaires, presidents, agencies, and courts after the damage is already done.

Sanders has said he plans to introduce the American A.I. Sovereign Wealth Fund Act, built around a one-time 50% stock tax on major AI companies to create a public ownership stake. Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also announced the AI Data Center Moratorium Act in March 2026, aimed at pausing large AI data center construction until national safeguards are in place.
