The New York Times reports that Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro’s repeated public dancing and televised mockery played a key role in President Donald Trump’s decision to authorize a U.S. military operation that led to Maduro’s capture in January 2026.

According to U.S. officials cited by the Times, Maduro’s performances—aired on state television after rejecting a U.S. ultimatum to resign—were viewed inside the White House as intentional defiance. One official reportedly called it “one dance move too many,” as the administration shifted from warnings to military action.
